Traditional technique

Anatomy of a pole marquee.

No bolts, no box sections — just timber, rope and canvas, raised the way marquees have been for generations.

  1. 1

Tall timber poles carry the ridge. Outside, all you see is a red turned finial on top; inside, they’re a natural place for flowers and lights.

  2. 2

Handmade canvas running along a flat ridge between the king poles, then straight down to the eaves.

  3. 3

The straight canvas band that finishes the eaves all the way round.

  4. 4

A ring of shorter uprights holds up the eaves and the walls.

  5. 5

Keep the whole tent taut and true — no frame required.

  6. 6

Canvas walls, or clear window walls that bring the garden in.

Pitched by hand

Rain or shine, first light or last.

Our crew raise every marquee by hand — all year round, rain or shine.

Once it’s up, we make sure you understand how the lights and heating work — and our line is open 24/7 to customers on hire.

Also available

Frame ‘clearspan’ marquees

For the occasional brief that calls for it, we also supply modern aluminium frame marquees. The main difference from a traditional marquee is that there are no central poles — whilst both can be finished to the same high standard, the style and appearance are quite different.

  • An aluminium frame with no internal poles
  • Uninterrupted floor space for large layouts
  • Linings, flooring, lighting and heating to the same high finish
